Born in America, Ralf Graebner grew up in Germany, a culture known for it's appreciation of precision.

From early age on he had the opportunity to watch his grandfather, an engineer, work in his wood shop. With hammer, nails, screws and blocks of wood Ralf started to build model cars and ships before elementary school.

In high school he chose physics and art as his majors. That's where he recognized his creative talent and was first exposed to photography as an artistic medium.

After serving in the German army, Ralf first followed in his grandfather's footsteps and enrolled at the Darmstadt University of Technology. But soon he left engineering to pursue a more passionately held dream: that of becoming a professional photographer.

He transferred to the University of Arts and Design in Bielefeld, Germany, where he studied photography and obtained the German equivalent of an M.A. degree.

His university thesis project took him to New York to photograph emerging models and create a series of large-format, contemplative portraits for a portfolio entitled “'New York Faces'.”

The success of that project lead to his moving from Germany to New York in June of 1998 where he now works as a freelance photographer specializing in the fields of fashion, jewelry and architecture. Dream achieved.
